Site Investigations (Mining)

Site investigation by trenching.
Following a mine search on a property, if mining features are recorded, or from adjacent features strongly suspected to affect a property, a site investigation may be recommended to clarify the situation.
Site investigations take two basic forms these being by drilling or trenching. Drilling is recommended if an investigation needs to be carried out beneath an existing structure, where using an excavator to trench would not be practical. A series of inclined drill holes would be bored beneath the footprint of the structure to check for backfilled or voided ground left by mining activity.

By using a Holmans Unitrack mini rig, investigations can be carried out in limited access areas.
Where an open and undeveloped site is encountered, the site investigation can be carried out by trenching. This uses either a wheeled JCB type excavator or a tracked ‘swing shovel’ depending on the size of the site and accessability.
