Mine searches
Fast and efficient mine searches carried out using expert mining and geological knowledge and the South West’s most extensive mine plan archive.
The Law Society requires a mining search as part of the property conveyancing process. Our mine searches are concise desk-based factual reports that identify and explain any historical mining activity which may affect a property.

Our reports are prepared using the largest and most comprehensive privately owned archive of mine plans in the region, a combination of several significant historical archives built up over nearly 100 years. Held in house at Wheal Jane and containing over 10,000 original plans on microfiche, our archive is an unequalled reference source.
Of course historical plans and information are only part of a good mine search; the data must be interpreted by a qualified mining geologist. Since 1988 our consultancy has completed over 24,000 mine searches in Cornwall alone by fully-qualified and experienced mining geologists from Camborne School of Mines.
We also understand that speed is vital when the need for a mine search arises. Our standard reports are issued within 48 hours and urgent reports can be provided virtually by return. When mining features are identified beneath a property, we include a site plan to show the mine workings and features and if necessary, make recommendations as to how any problems identified can be dealt with.
Wheal Jane Consultancy carries full professional indemnity (PI) insurance cover and is both ISO 9001 Quality Assurance and ISO 14001 Environmental standard accredited.
Contact us today if you need a mine search or require further information. All we need to complete a mine search is a site plan with the boundary of the property clearly marked. We accept card payments over the phone and can receive plans and send reports by email.
