Wheal Jane Consultancy in the Spotlight!

10 March

Wheal Jane Consultancy’s Senior Mining Geologist Dale Foster, has been speaking to both Cornwall Live and BBC News about the opening of a mining feature near Camborne.

“The records we hold do not indicate a shaft to be present at that location, however, an 1850 district mining map held in our archive indicates the presence of a linear feature that might suggest the presence of workings brought to surface along the course of a lode.

We would expect that a combination of the extended period of wet winter weather and the apparent fall of a tree that had been located on the feature has been the catalyst to the collapse occurring, whether by old timbering finally yielding or by movement of infill material into deeper void spaces.”
